Are Winter Tires Important ? Quebec's provincial government thinks so. Winter tires have been mandatory in Quebec since December 2009. - Sub-compact; stopping distance reduced from 50.7m to 39.1m (29% shorter distance)
- Minivan; stopping distance reduced from 51.1m to 38.3m (33% shorter distance)
- 4x4/SUV; stopping distance reduce from 42.8m to 35.7m (20% shorter distance)

The safety gained from dedicated winter tires far outweighs the cost. You are also far less likely to become stuck due to bad traction, saving you aggrivation and towing costs. And consider this, using a set of summer tires and winter tires you effectively double your tire life!
